What does the Foundation provide
for our students and community?
Well-resourced schools are essential to our society and to our future. The Foundation recognizes that our community's educational needs require financing that exceeds the amount received from public funds.
We are thus tasked with providing the following programs and benefits to Del Sur Elementary through supplemental capital raised by parent volunteers.
Staff
Librarian
Our Librarian's salary, resources, and Junior Library Guild membership are supported by DSEF funds.
Physical Education
DSEF funds our Physical Education teacher.
Impact Teachers
Three certificated teachers work with students needing additional support in either math or literacy.
Student Enrichment
Field Trips
DSEF provides funding for field trips to pumpkin patches, living history centers, museums, and more!
Apex is a 2 week interactive leadership program combined with a Fun Run fundraiser that helps schools raise funds, while promoting leadership, good character and fitness.
Field Day
Field Day is an exciting outdoor event that gives kids the chance to show some class pride and spend a day being active.
Through daily lessons, hands-on activities, and active participation in a simulated community, students are encouraged to use critical thinking skills as they build the foundation in business, economics, and free enterprise. Students develop a strong understanding of the relationship between what they learn in school and their successful participation in a local economy.
Promotion Ceremonies
We are always proud to celebrate the milestones in our children's lives. At DSES, this includes promotion ceremonies for pre-school and 5th grade.
Assemblies
Assemblies are opportunities for the students to gather together and experience a fun and educational presentation or activity.
Academic Enhancements
Accelerated Reader is an educational program created by Renaissance Learning. It is designed to monitor and manage students' independent reading practice and comprehension in both English and Spanish. The program assesses students' performance through quizzes and tests based on the books they have read. DSES uses this for students in grades K-5 and is something the teaching staff values.
Author talks is an integrated component of student learning. We believe that students engaging with inspiring authors can ignite enthusiasm for reading, spark a passion for writing, and help the literacy of even the most reluctant readers. Each month a new author video presentation is provided to all teachers to use as a motivational tool for reading and writing.
This annual subscription brings monthly reading periodicals to each class that has a range of engaging texts. Grade Pre-K to 5th grade students love this for their reading of both fiction and nonfiction texts and teachers use it as a tool for measuring student reading comprehension.
A digital resource for reinforcing literacy skills (reading, writing, and language for students in grades 3-5.
Generation Genius is a K-8 teaching resource that brings school science and math standards to life through fun and educational videos paired with lesson plans, activities, quizzes, reading material and more. Videos are produced in partnership with the National Science and Math Teaching Association, and aligned to standards in all 50 states.
IMSE's Orton-Gillingham program allows children to break down how and why letters and words sound the way they do using multiple senses. It allows educators to teach children in the way that each individual child learns best. All teachers in grades K-2 in PUSD have been trained with this IMSE program. The subscription gives teachers access to the IMSE resources to use with their students.
The Novel Effect app responds to your voice with interactive music and sound effects, making classroom read-alouds your students' and teachers' favorite part of the school day. Used by teaching staff to increase reading engagement.
